IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) Definition
IDM comes in many varieties but it does have a distinct scene and unique set of artists.
IDM is a slower form of techno that started to evolve in the early 90s - perhaps sooner. Instead of the driving force of a techno beat, IDM presents a more melodic, artsey, intellectual sound slowed down for the ear to capture and process (without losing the feel of a 'Roland 909' drum beat).
In fact, IDM's intellect comes from its basis in complex mathematical algorhythms used to design soundscapes that are not without deep intelligent thought.
Because of the personal nature of the IDM sound construction, we suggest IDM is more suitable for a personal space like a living room or basement suite - especially enhanced cozy spaces.
